SINGAPORE, N. J. - A federal judge in Los Angeles has imposed a $50 million fine on a California man who tried to buy Viagra in a pharmacy.
The Food and Drug Administration said it found a pharmacy employee selling Viagra through a website on Saturday.
The woman, who is believed to be the wife of the store’s manager, purchased the drug from the pharmacy in March, court filings said.

The FDA said the pharmacy sold the prescription drug at least one of its other drugs and that the man’s doctor had prescribed it.
The agency said it found that the pharmacy “was selling a prescription drug that the FDA has not identified as a safe and effective drug,” and that the man had used the drug to treat a rare but serious condition.
The pharmacy said the drug was not an FDA approved drug and the pharmacy could not legally sell the drug.
The FDA said it was investigating the pharmacy and found that it had false information on its website.
“FDA’s investigation showed the pharmacy’s website was not legitimate, and the FDA’s warning about the false information was incorrect,” the FDA said.

“The pharmacy is not selling Viagra or other erectile dysfunction drugs through a site that is being operated by an attorney and a law firm that represents clients,” the FDA said.
The FDA said it had found no information on the pharmacy’s website regarding any health conditions, including prescription drug information.
